Dr Tram- Award Winning Scientist
Since the 1980s, Dr. Tram has devoted her work to the evidence-based scientific study of the herbs used in Vietnamese Health Traditions
A Chance Meeting Defines Dr. Tram’s Lifelong Passion
In the early 1990s, Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram was already an established botanical researcher and formulator in Europe. She returned to her homeland determined to research and categorize Vietnam’s health-promoting plants. She wanted to let the world know: the forests of Vietnam hold botanical treasures.
One day during her expeditions, Dr. Tram took a break at a small tea stand near Hue, Vietnam’s former Imperial capital. The tea seller told her about an herb that the Royal doctors once used. Dr. Tram followed the woman into the forest to see “The King’s Herb”—Crinum plants growing in the wild. Thus began a 24-year quest.
Relying On her Established Research Success
While developing Crila®, Dr. Tram drew from every aspect of her past successes in botanical research. In the 1980s, her doctoral thesis was on the composition and structure of 45 compounds found in the essential oils of Vietnamese plants. The excellence of her research earned her an invitation to continue as a collaborator with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and later with the Innsbruck Medical University in Austria. This foundation in international research prepared Dr. Tram for evaluating Crinum latifolium and determining how to bring its benefits to the public.
